Background Checks & Required Documentation

All covered individuals — owners, directors, employees, volunteers, and household members age 12 or older — must clear a background check through Utah's Office of Background Processing (OBP) before having unsupervised access to children. Fingerprint-based checks are required for covered individuals age 16 and older (18 and older for certain categories). See Utah Admin. Code R381-100-7(9)(d)/(13) and R430-8-5. No one may work unsupervised with children until OBP issues an eligible determination. Check with your Center Director and the Office of Licensing (DLBC) for current TB screening requirements, which vary by facility type.

Staff Training & Professional Development

The company supports and encourages the professional growth and development of each of their employees and provides both internal and external opportunities for you to achieve the best continuing education and training.

Required Training:

• If you are a caregiver providing any care to children, you are required to complete 20 hours of annual training (per Utah Admin. Code R381-100-7), including the required training for licensing. Annual training hour requirements vary by license type (for example, 10 hours/year for hourly centers under R381-60); confirm with your Center Director which rule applies to your location. • Any new director designee must also complete Designee training prior to taking on designee responsibilities. • If you work for a childcare program, but do not provide direct care to children, you are only required to complete preservice training. External Training Opportunities

By doing so, early learning professionals, teachers, caregivers and program administrators can browse training opportunities, register for courses, track and record professional development, apply for scholarships and more.
